Tone School Sports Partnership Leadership Training Day

330.jpgOn Wednesday 16th December the Tone School Sports Partnership held a training day for 120 of the areas most talented leaders in Years 6 – 9. Pupils were nominated by their school because they had reached a high standard of leadership, were confident, motivated leaders who are keen to volunteer and would benefit from some training to help take them onto a new level of leadership.

Gifted & Talented PE

yr-5-moderation-web.jpgGifted and Talented pupils in the Taunton Deane and West Somerset area have attended a series of moderation and development academies organised by the Tone School Sports Partnership. 

Just over 250 Yr 5 pupils have attended moderation sessions run by the partnerships Sports Coordinators and about 100 pupils being selected to attend future cluster academies.

Top Activity / Active Lifestyle coaches trained
scat-training-web.jpgOver the last 2 months 55 students from Somerset College, Richard Huish and West Somerset Community College have been trained as Top Activity and Active lifestyle coaches. The aim is to get the students to support and run Multi-Sport / Activity after school clubs in both primary and first schools.  The focus is to increase participation for those pupils not engaged by the diet of traditional sports, especially in years 1 to 4.  Activities included ultimate Frisbee, seated volleyball, Tri golf, cheerleading, body combat, dance, circus skills and skipping.”

Canoeing Grant Successful
  • Young Canoeists in Taunton have been celebrating after the Partnership was successfully awarded an £8,000 grant from the "Foundation for Sports and the Arts" and £1,850 sponsorship from "Performance Kayaks".  The money has been used to buy 4 new canoes and 13 kayaks along with paddles, helmets, buoyancy aids and other safety equipment.  30 pupils spent two days during half term practising their skills on the River Tone and St Georges swimming pool.
     
    Summer Primary Central Venue Leagues
  • The finals of the Primary school SUMMER central venue leagues have been taking place during July for rounders and kwik cricket.

    In addition, children have had the opportunity to take part in mini hockey and ultimate frisbee once a month.
